UK Drone Industry Plans PR Push - Business Insider

Unmanned aerial vehicles ? best known as drones ? get a bad rap, according to some in the defense industry. Though best known for their deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq, they're also used in law enforcement, border patrol, firefighting and road traffic monitoring.

They also recommend drones be decorated with humanitarian-related advertisements, and be painted bright colours to distance them from those used in warzones.

Gallagher quotes a UAVSA rep saying the industry is uncomfortable with the word "drones" and wants to find new terminology. "If they're brightly coloured, and people know why they're there, it makes them a lot more comfortable," he said.

The drone industry has also been pushing for laws that would set aside British airspace for civilian drone use, Gallagher reports.
