A man released from jail on Memorial Day wound up boarding a plane without a ticket on Tuesday, San Diego Harbor Police said.

United Airlines flight 6323 was bound for Los Angeles from San Diego International Airport when flight attendants counted an extra passenger aboard the plane.

Authorities later learned the man entered the tarmac through an emergency door in the airport's commuter terminal. Although the alarm sounded, the man quickly made his way through the tarmac and boarded the plane with the other passengers.

A witness said he handed his duffel bag to a flight attendant, saying he urgently needed to use the bathroom. He then sat down in a passenger's seat.

The flight attendant realized there were too many people on the plane and identified the extra passenger. He was easy to spot, as he looked disheveled and suspicious, according to Nicholas Blasgen, a passenger on the plane.

Passengers were told to get off the plane while dogs sniffed their bags. They all were forced to go through security a second time before taking off.

"How could this happen?" Blasgen asked, "In this day and age when I have to take my shoes off to get on a plane, this guy bypasses everything. What if he had a bomb?"

The man was escorted off the plane peacefully. He was arrested and is now in jail. Harbor police are investigating the incident.

I don?t play fantasy football.? I don?t play fantasy baseball.? I don?t play fantasy golf.? Between work, sleep and some semblance of a social life, I just don?t have the time.

Every so often, a friend will ask me to join his fantasy league for either this sport or that, knowing full well that I?m not interested, but telling me it will help promote the website, so I?ll appease.? For me, committing to a full season of fantasy sports simply requires too much time, effort and definitely, too much luck.

But today, I am here to blow the lid off fantasy sports, proving once and for all, that any monkey can win a fantasy league.

At the beginning of this NASCAR season (that?s right, I said NASCAR), some friends invited me to join their fantasy racing league.? After some deliberation, I figured, why not.? I had already dominated our football pick ?em league two years in a row, so why not try my hand at a little NASCAR.? It couldn?t hurt, right?? Besides, NASCAR?s not like baseball, where I need to scour the internet for last-minute transactions, or ensure I start my utility infielder on a Tuesday night because he hits better in a dome against lefties.? NASCAR races are held once a week.? Pick a name out of a hat and wish for the best.? That?s less commitment than a one-night stand.

Well, let me just tell you, out of the 13 people in Yahoo?s Jim Beam Racing League, I am currently in first place.

I literally know nothing about NASCAR, nor do I drink Jim Beam.? Off the top of my head, I can, at best, name fifteen drivers on the circuit, and that?s because I live in the South.? I don?t know who drives what car, who represents which sponsors, which driver performs better on what track or what the hell a restrictor plate is.? Yet there I sit, atop the leader board, in all my glory, spewing trash talk from my NASCAR mountaintop.? All luck, no skill.? No research, only randomness.? So what, I ask you, is the point?

Come autumn, American males will spend weeks dissecting NFL rosters.? We?ll spend way too much time reading Street & Smith magazines, along with countless hours planning a chicken wing and beer-soaked draft party, only to complain when some random geek a few cubicles down, who knows nothing about football, wins our fantasy league.

This year, I am that random geek.

I am auto racing.

The way private equity generally works is that it finds a distressed company, buys it, takes it private then fires all the managers and puts in its own people. The whole process is tightly controlled by the private equity firm. It is intentionally cutting out anyone who disagrees with its ideas.

As President, Romney will not have the same luxury. He will have to deal with a pack of hyenas who all have their own ideas about what makes sense. We call these people Congressmen.

Unfortunately for Romney, he can't just take the USA private and ditch those folks. He has to figure out how to work with them.

Could he do it? Certainly. But if he can do it, it probably won't be because of his training in private equity.

Iraqi president calls for dialogue to solve crisis

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraq's president on Saturday urged the nation's bickering factions to resolve the bitter political dispute that has gripped the government for nearly six months, warning that the crisis threatens to split the country.

President Jalal Talabani's statement, posted on his website, is the latest plea for an end to the crisis that has engulfed Iraq since Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government issued an arrest warrant for the country's Sunni vice president in December ? just as the last U.S. troops left the country.

Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish politicians have been holding meetings for weeks to discuss how to resolve the deadlock, including whether to try to push al-Maliki to step down before the end of his four-year term in 2014. Al-Maliki's critics accuse him of consolidating power and sidelining both Sunnis and Kurds, touching off a political impasse that has brought government work to a near standstill.

Already, the president of Iraq's northern self-rule Kurdish region has said he will hold a popular referendum on whether to secede if the deadlock is not solved by local elections set for September.

"I am firmly convinced of the seriousness of the current circumstances which require that we speed up efforts to sit at the table of constructive and fraternal dialogue," said Talabani, a Kurd, whose post is largely ceremonial.

Otherwise, he said, the crisis "could lead to growing tensions and exacerbate the risks and problems."

Talabani in the past has played the role of a mediator in Iraq's frequent political disputes.

The political threat to al-Maliki has shifted over several months, and it's not clear whether parliament will force the vote to oust him. The prime minister on Saturday issued his own plea for talks, saying "dialogue and clarity is what can bring good."

Seller Of The Week: Andrew S. Gibson - Entrepreneurial e-Publisher

Andrew is a passionate photographer and writer, currently based out of New Zealand. ?He is also a regular author on many photography related magazines and more specifically on Craft and Vision, a community of photographers, which was founded by David duChemin . He is also the technical editor for EOS magazine which as the name suggests is a magazine dedicated to the users of Canon's EOS range of cameras. He is also an eBook author and has published 6 of these so far.

All 6 are available on Craft and Vision and he sells 3 of these on his website.?Andrew has already sold more that 1300 copies of his eBooks and he was good enough to take some time out of his busy schedule and talk to us about his passion for photography, writing and particularly his eBooks. He also shares his experience about self publishing and his experiences as an online seller. Read on to catch Andrew's responses:

Andrew please introduce yourself to our readers.

My pleasure. I'm a freelance writer and photographer, currently based in New Zealand. I make a living writing about the technical and creative sides of photography.

How did you get started with photography/writing as a full time profession?

My writing career began properly when I got a job as a technical writer with EOS magazine (www.eos-magazine.com). It was kind of like an apprenticeship for me. I'd actually decided to become a writer a year or so before that, and had several articles published in photography magazines during that time. But the job was the first moment I was able to say "I'm a full-time writer".

I've been interested in photography ever since I received my first SLR as a christmas present in 1990 (a Ricoh KR-10m ? anyone remember those?) Writing about photography is a nice way to merge my two creative interests.

What style of photography are you into? From where do you draw your inspiration for your photographs?

I describe my work as fine-art photography. I'm quite selective about the subjects I photograph and prefer to take a deliberate, thoughtful approach to image-making. I'm not the type of person who carries a camera around all the time 'in case' they see a good image. When I'm taking photos it's all or nothing for me ? I'm totally concentrated in the moment on making beautiful images.

My inspiration comes from many sources, but at the moment my favourite photographers are Bruce Percy and Cole Thompson (http://www.brucepercy.co.uk/ and http://www.photographyblackwhite.com/).

Please tell us briefly about your writing and also specifically about your eBooks.

I write articles for photography magazines and websites, and eBooks. So far I've written six eBooks for Craft & Vision (www.craftandvision.com) and three that I sell on my own website (www.andrewsgibson.com).

The first eBook that I sold from my website was called 'Square' and is about the square format in digital photography. I learnt a lot from writing and designing that eBook and bringing it to market. I made two crucial mistakes that have helped the next two eBooks do better.

The first was pricing the eBook too low. I priced it at $US5, with a $1 discount to encourage orders in the first few days. In hindsight that was too low. Most of the sales came from affiliate reviews (affilates get a 30% cut of sales originating from their websites) and by the time you take away the Paypal fees that left a little over $2 profit per book. That's fine if you have high volume sales but that's not a realistic aim with the first eBook unless you have a blog with lots of readers or an email newsletter you can use to publicise the eBook.

The second was pricing the eBook in US dollars. My Paypal account is in pounds sterling, and it meant that I was paying to convert the money from dollars to pounds. It makes more sense to use pounds. It also means that it doesn't matter if the dollar loses value in the future.

The next two eBooks are called 'Understanding DPP' and 'Understanding Exposure'. They are specifically written for owners of Canon EOS cameras. The advantage of this is twofold. First, I can go into real depth and explain to EOS users how the controls on their cameras work. If I was writing for all photographers, I could only speak about this in more general terms.

Second, EOS magazine publicise the eBooks in their email newsletter and website. The traffic from that has been invaluable in building up an audience. In many ways the eBooks are aimed at the readers of EOS magazine ? a ready made target audience.

Do you think the advent of ecommerce has thrown open the floodgates for creative people? Share your eCommerce or online selling experience with our readers.

Yes I do. After working for EOS magazine I've experienced the publishing industry from two sides. EOS magazine is a high quality photography magazine with professionally researched, written and edited articles. It's also professionally designed. It's important for any-one who wishes to self-publish that they meet the same high standards of writing and editing. This means it's not as easy to self-publish as you might think. Anyone with a website can do it (thanks to the E-Junkie software) but the people that create the highest quality products are the ones who are thriving. That's the key to success of Craft & Vision and something that I'm trying to do with my own products.

In many ways publishing my second eBook, 'Understanding DPP', was one of the best things that I ever did. It made me realise that I am in control of my destiny as a writer. One of the downsides of freelancing is that you need clients to survive and build a successful business. Now I have my own client ? me, and by extension, the readers of my eBooks. I've created my own job, and that's a good feeling.

Please tell us something about the equipment that you use. Could you please elaborate on both the hardware and the software.

I use Canon cameras and lenses to take photos, and a Macbook Pro to write and edit photos. I use Lightroom and Photoshop CS for photo editing and InDesign for designing eBooks. I also use E-Junkie as the ecommerce software on my website, and WordPress to create my site.

What other photographers/writers do you look up to and why?

The main one (apart from the two already mentioned) would be David duChemin, the creator of Craft & Vision. Not only has he helped get my started on this self-publishing adventure by publishing my eBooks on his website, he's also a fantastic inspiration. He takes beautiful photos and has built a business based on photography, writing and teaching that should be an inspiration to anyone working in the industry.

Another photographer I admire for the beauty of his images and the amount of travelling he does is Mitchell Kanashkevich (http://www.mitchellkphotos.com). His work is beautiful ? he also writes some excellent eBooks.

Another writer whose workrate and success really impresses me is Darren Rowse, the creator of the Digital Photography School and Problogger websites. Not only does he do a phenomenal amount of quality writing each week for these websites, but he also produces high quality eBooks. Another great example to learn from.

If you could peek inside the studio/toolbox of any designer/artist/craftsperson, whose would it be and why?

Hmmm...a difficult question. I'm not really that curious about the way other people work. Although it would be interesting to sit down with a skilled graphic designer and watch them put a magazine or eBook together, and have them explain their thought processes. That would be really cool.

What are your future plans as a photographer? Are you working on any cool new projects currently?

At the moment I'm working on more eBooks for Craft & Vision and for my website. I'm planning to release a new EOS related eBook every three months on my website.

What top advice would you like to give to budding photographers/writers who want to make it big in the online world??

Build a following by creating an interesting blog that people want to read. You should also build an email newsletter list ? a good enticement is a free eBook that readers can only obtain by signing up for your newsletter. That's worked well for me. It is not often that espionage thrillers feature a round of peer review, but this early scene is a natural fit for Travelling Salesman, a film based on the premise that the biggest unsolved problem in computer science has been cracked.

When the film opens, Timothy Horton, a US-born mathematician currently at the University of Cambridge, and three colleagues are discussing whether or not to include an addendum on practical applications in a report of their latest theoretical research. You might think this is hardly a match for the explosive intros of James Bond films, but the mathematicians? work has the potential to do far more damage than 007?s entire career.

The problem in question is known as P vs NP and deals with the fundamental limits of computation. Briefly, P is the class of ?easy? problems than can be solved by an algorithm in a reasonable amount of time - multiplying two numbers together, for example. NP is the class of problems that are easy to check - if you are given an answer, you can quickly verify it - but otherwise difficult to solve.

The P vs NP problem, still unsolved after 40 years despite a $1 million bounty,? asks whether these two classes are actually identical. Most researchers believe they aren?t, as we seem to live in a world where some problems are simply fundamentally harder to compute than others.

Travelling Salesman takes place in the other world. Horton and colleagues have proved that P = NP, meaning they can easily solve a range of difficult real-world problems from gene sequencing to the eponymous travelling salesman problem, crucial for logistics and scheduling.

It also enables the mathematicians to crack any cryptography system in the world, which is why their four-year research project has been funded to the tune of millions of dollars by the US government. Now a smooth-talking spook has come to collect the proof and the ?non-deterministic processor? capable of swiftly cracking secret codes, but the mathematicians have begun to have mixed feelings about the implications of their work.

In the real world, some tricky mathematical caveats mean a proof that P = NP would not necessarily imply the ability to break cryptography, but it is a great premise that writers Andy and Timothy Lanzone use to explore the theme of scientific hubris. It is a well-worn trope in relation to genetic modification or to atomic bombs, and references to Los Alamos and Oppenheimer come thick-and-fast in Travelling Salesman, but one little discussed when it comes to maths.

Unfortunately, this means that the majority of the film consists of five men having a heated discussion in a stark, washed-out blue room in some anonymous government building. Other than Horton, we never even learn the characters? names. The low-budget aesthetic and grounding in hard science is reminiscent of the excellent time-travel film Primer, but Travelling Salesman is far less ambitious. A few flashbacks help break up the film, but you can?t help think this particular story would be better served as an hour-long play.

Travelling Salesman is still well worth watching though, especially for anyone with an interest in the consequences of mathematics rather than just its content. As Horton explains at a keynote conference speech, mathematicians have transformed our world, enabling mobile phones, GPS and Facebook, but also C4 explosives and enriched uranium. In A Mathematician?s Apology, G. H. Hardy sought to justify the pursuit of pure mathematics, stating that it seemed unlikely there would ever be a warlike application of number theory or special relativity, but cryptography and nuclear weapons proved him wrong. Travelling Salesman?s mathematicians are all too aware of what their work will do to the world, and watching them argue how to handle the consequences offers a thriller far more cerebral than most.

Travelling Salesman premieres on the 16th June at 4pm at International House Philadelphia, 3701 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. After this the film will be shown on the international film festival circuit including the New York City International Film Festival in mid-August.

Focus on a Funder ? Santander Foundation | Funding 4 Sport

The?Santander Foundation?is the latest guise of a funder that has been very active over the years, bringing together donations made via the Abbey, Alliance and Leicester, and Bradford and Bingley businesses. They have been keen to promote their work in South Yorkshire, and have attended several events to talk to local groups. Financial capability:?help disadvantaged people understand how to manage their money. It could include budgeting skills as well as managing the financial challenges that arise from being a carer, unemployment, break up of relationships, disability or ill-health.
Examples of possible activities include costs of running a credit union, delivering financial advice and helping people to understand their benefit entitlement ? any project helping people to make informed choices about their finances might meet this priority.

RFK assassination witness: 'There definitely was another shooter'

A key witness to the 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy has retracted her official statements in the case and now claims that convicted assassin Sirhan Sirhan did not act alone.

Nina Rhodes-Hughes, 78, tells CNN that the FBI "twisted" her original statements to authorities. In recent court filings led by California Attorney General Kamala Harris, state prosecutors argue that even if there were a second gunman on the scene, Sirhan is still guilty of murder.

"What has to come out is that there was another shooter to my right," Rhodes told CNN. "The truth has got to be told. No more cover-ups."

Rhodes' original FBI statement says she only heard 8 gunshots at the time and makes no mention of a second shooter. However, Rhodes, who was just feet away from Kennedy says she never claimed to have only heard 8 shots.

"I never said eight shots. I never, never said it. There were more than eight shots," she told CNN. "There were at least 12, maybe 14. And I know there were because I heard the rhythm in my head."

Last November, Sirhan's attorneys announced they were filing a challenge to the verdict, alleging a conspiracy by authorities in the case. They are asking that Sirhan be released from prison. His attorneys argue that Sirhan was the victim of a malicious form of "hypo programming" that falsely caused him to believe he was RFK's assassin.

"For me it's hopeful and sad that it's only coming out now instead of before -- but at least now instead of never," Rhodes told CNN.

Rhodes was never called as a witness in Sirhan's trial but claims she gave an interview shortly after the shooting during which she claimed to have heard at least a dozen shots.
